02 / Inside the app

Read the label. Know what you share.

Every app in the App Store carries a privacy label: the developer’s own statement of which data the app collects, which of it is tied to your identity and which is used to track you across other companies’ apps and websites. For online casino apps the label is unusually telling, because the identity check alone means handing over your ID, address and banking details.

Of the 14 operator apps in our index, 12 declare at least one kind of data “used to track you”, and 9 declare location data. Location is the expected one: provincial rules make the app prove where you are before you play. Identifiers and usage data used for tracking are a choice the operator made.

Is this app safe?

Four questions to answer before you install a casino app. They take a minute and they catch most copycat apps.

Read the full app check
Did the link to the app come from the operator’s own website or the official store?
Is the developer named in the store the company that runs the casino?
Is the operator listed for your province (or is it your provincial platform)?
Can you set deposit and time limits inside the app?

05 / Where you can play

Real money online casino apps across Canada

Canada has no national online casino market. Each province decides how online gambling works inside its borders, and the result is three different situations for anyone looking for online casino apps: what you may install depends on where you are when you open it.

Ontario: a regulated market with many operators

Ontario opened its market to private operators in April 2022. Operators register with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and run their games under an agreement with iGaming Ontario. The minimum age is 19. You can check any brand against the public operator list on the iGaming Ontario website, or start from our Ontario casino app guide. OLG, the provincial lottery corporation, runs its own app in the same market; the provincial lottery apps page compares it with PlayNow, Play Alberta and Loto-Québec.

Alberta: registered operators next to Play Alberta

Alberta now registers private operators through Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC), alongside its own platform, Play Alberta. The minimum age is 18, and the AGLC publishes its list of registered iGaming operators. Several brands publish a separate Alberta app, so the Ontario version will not work there. The Alberta casino app guide lists the registered ones.

The other provinces and territories

In British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba the provincial platform is PlayNow; Quebec has Loto-Québec, and New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador share Atlantic Lottery. The minimum age is 19, except 18 in Manitoba and Quebec. The territories have no online casino of their own.

That is why the best real money casino apps in Canada differ by province, and why our App Index only shows the apps that may be shown where you are. The province guide covers each one in detail.

06 / Installing

Installing casino apps on iPhone and Android

Start on the operator’s own website, not in a search of the store. Many brands publish several apps with almost identical names and icons, one per province, and the website links to the right one for where you are. Then check two things in the store before you tap install: the developer name, which should be the company behind the casino, and the age rating, which is 17+ for every real money casino app in the Canadian App Store.

Every operator in our index has an iPhone app; 9 of 14 also have one in Google Play. Where there is no Android listing, the operator usually asks Android users to play in the mobile browser or to install an APK file from its own site. The iPhone and Android guides walk through both.

07 / App or browser

Do you need the app at all?

Your account, your balance and the games are the same in real money casino apps and in the mobile browser. The difference is in the details. The app remembers your login with a fingerprint or your face, sends notifications if you allow them and loads the lobby a little faster. It also takes storage space: across the operator apps in our index the median iPhone download is 126 MB, and the largest is 209 MB.

The browser asks for fewer permissions, leaves nothing installed and is the only option on Android for brands without a Google Play listing. If you play once a month, it is enough. If you play often, the app is more convenient, and its privacy label tells you exactly what it collects. See the full comparison.

08 / Payments

Deposits and withdrawals in the app

Interac e-Transfer is the payment method most Canadian players reach for, and most apps in the index accept it in both directions. Deposits arrive within minutes. Withdrawals take longer, and the reason is rarely the payment method: the operator reviews the request, and the first time it also completes your identity check.

  1. Verify your account early: upload a government ID and a proof of address after you register, not when you first cash out.
  2. Withdraw to the method you deposited with where you can. Operators often require it.
  3. Expect the stated withdrawal time to start after approval, and your bank to add its own processing time.

Typical withdrawal times in the index range from 24 hours to three days. The Interac guide covers limits and common errors, and withdrawal times explains what a “pending” status means.

09 / Method

How we check casino apps for Canada

We did not play these online casino apps or rate their games. The App Index is a record of facts anyone can check, collected the same way for every app.

  • Who may be listed. Operators registered in Ontario (iGaming Ontario operator list) and Alberta (AGLC registrants list). An operator appears only in the provinces where we could confirm it.
  • Store data. Rating, number of ratings, download size, version and last update from the Canadian App Store; the same from Google Play where there is a listing.
  • Privacy. The App Store privacy label and the Google Play data safety section, quoted as the developer declared them. Neither store verifies these statements.
  • Payments. Deposit and withdrawal methods and typical withdrawal times as published by each operator.

About this data

14 operator app listings and the provincial platforms, store data checked on Oct 9, 2026. The order within a province follows our default operator list for that province; it does not rate the games. Store ratings can move quickly when an app has few reviews, so we show the number of ratings on each app page. We refresh the store data regularly; the date above always shows the last check.

10 / FAQ

Questions before you install.

Which casino apps can I use in Canada?

It depends on the province you are standing in. Ontario and Alberta license private operators, so their apps sit next to the provincial platform (OLG and Play Alberta). In the other provinces the lottery corporation runs its own online casino (PlayNow, Loto-Québec, Atlantic Lottery). The App Index above shows the list for your province.

Are real money casino apps legal in Canada?

Gambling is regulated province by province. Apps from operators registered in Ontario or Alberta, and the apps of the provincial lottery corporations, are legal for adults located in those provinces. We say for each app where it may be shown.

Why does a casino app need my location?

Provincial rules tie play to where you are, not where you live. Ontario and Alberta apps check your location before every session and block play when you cross the border. That is the reason almost every app in the index declares location data.

How old do I have to be to use a casino app?

19 in most provinces and territories, 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. The app will ask for proof of age during the identity check, usually a photo of a government ID.

Can I use the same casino app in another province?

Often not. Several operators publish one app per province, and each one only works inside its own province, so download the one for the province you are in.

Are casino apps on the App Store safe to install?

Apple only lists real money gambling apps from licensed operators, and the app has to be locked to the places where it is licensed. That removes most copycats, but you should still check that the developer named in the store matches the casino and read the privacy label.

Is Google Play allowed to list casino apps in Canada?

Yes. Google Play lists real money casino apps for Canada from operators it has approved. Some brands still publish only an iPhone app; on Android they point you to their mobile website instead.

Should I install an APK file from a casino website?

Only if the file comes from the operator’s own site and the operator is registered in your province. An APK skips the store’s review, so it also skips the store’s privacy label. A download link sent by text message or social media is a red flag.

Is a casino app better than the mobile website?

The games and the account are the same. The app adds a fingerprint or face login, notifications and slightly faster loading. The browser asks for fewer permissions and takes no storage. Our app vs browser section compares both.

Can I deposit with Interac in a casino app?

Most apps in the index accept Interac e-Transfer, and many also pay withdrawals back to it. The Interac column in the App Index shows which ones do.

Why is my withdrawal still pending?

The first withdrawal almost always waits for the identity check. Upload your ID and proof of address before you request money out and the pending time drops to the operator’s normal processing time.

What does "data used to track you" mean on a privacy label?

Apple uses the phrase when the developer links data from the app with data from other companies’ apps or websites, mostly for advertising. It does not mean the app shares your bets. It means your device or account identifiers leave the casino’s own systems.

How big is a typical casino app?

Across the operator apps in our index the median App Store download is 126 MB, from 7 MB to 209 MB. Live dealer streams then use more mobile data than slots.

Do casino apps work on older phones?

Each App Store listing names a minimum iOS version, and the app label on our app pages shows it. Phones that cannot run that version will not see the app in the store.

Where can I get help if gambling stops being fun?

Even the best casino apps should be one pastime among many. Every province runs a confidential helpline; the numbers are in our footer and on our responsible gambling page. Casino apps also let you set deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion from the account settings.

How often is the App Index updated?

The store data was last checked on Oct 9, 2026. Ratings, sizes and update dates come straight from the Canadian App Store and Google Play; payment and withdrawal facts come from each operator.
